Fleur de lis (flower of the lily)
The history of the fleur de lis dates back to twelfth century Europe where it signified French Royalty. Later on the English even used the symbol to show their loyalty to the French throne. The fleur de lis presently represents anything related to the State of Louisiana.
Pictured to the left is the Louisiana-Acadian Flag. The fleur de lis' represent the french origin of the Acadians, the golden tower represents Spain- the country which ruled Louisiana under the Acadian migration, and the gold star represents Our Lady of Assumption, Patroness of the Acadians. The star is also said to represent the Acadian soldiers who fought in the American Revolution.
